Nuby Mealtime Must-Have’s (Plus Our Favorite Homemade Waffle and Syrup Recipe’s)

A few months ago we were sent some of Nuby’s amazing products to review. By far our favorite’s are the Sure Grip™ Miracle Mat™ Section Plates. I think we have every animal now (but give me ALL THE COLORS) and they are just so much fun! Every time we use one of our animal plates Brylee has to guess what it is. The koala bear is probably the hardest one to figure out so I tell her once she eats some of the food it will be easier to tell. Gets her to eat more every single time!

One thing I love about the Sure Grip™ Miracle Mat™ Section Plates is that they suction to the table and stay put. The “openings” are also perfect for tiny tummy’s. Whenever I use a plate that has multiple dividers in it, Brylee insists that each one is filled so its nice to have smaller spaces to fill. Oh and they are totally dishwasher safe!

Since so many of our favorite meals are in this post you get all the recipes. This is definitely one to save.

First up, our FAVORITE waffle recipe. I used this recipe for years and have yet to make a bad waffle. You could easily double the recipe and freeze them. (They are awesome reheated in the toaster (oven).) When we made this batch of waffles this week,  I realized we only had enough syrup for about two waffles and didn’t feel like venturing out into the snowstorm just for that so I googled a “homemade syrup recipe” and found this one (#spoileralert it’s amazing!). Growing up my mom always made homemade syrup and I did not like it at all (Sorry mom!) because it was super runny and I like thick syrup so I was super nervous about trying this but it was a favorite by all and I will definitely be making homemade from now on!

Waffles:
Ingredients:
* 1 and 1/3 cups flour
* 4 teaspoons baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 2 tablespoons sugar
* 2 eggs, separated
* 1/2 cup butter, (melted)
*1 and 3/4 cups milk

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all dry ingredients.
  2. Separate the eggs, adding the yolks to the dry ingredient mixture, and placing the whites in a small mixing bowl.
  3. Beat whites until moderately stiff, set aside. (I use a hand mixer for this.)
  4. Add milk and melted butter to dry ingredient mixture and blend. (Sometimes the melted butter stiffens from the cold milk but it’s perfectly fine).
  5. Fold stiff egg whites into mixture.
  6. Ladle mixture into hot waffle iron and bake. (I set my waffle iron on medium (3) and cook for a few minutes. I usually spray with non stick spray the first few waffles and then every other).

Maple Syrup:
Ingredients:
* 1 cup water
* 2 cups brown sugar
*1 tablespoon Maple extract

Directions:
Heat water and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium high heat until the mixture boils, stirring frequently (I used a whisk). Once boiling reduce heat to medium low and add the maple extract. Continue to heat for an additional 3 minutes (whisking occasionally). I allowed our’s to cool slightly while I made the rest of breakfast and then transferred into a small pitcher. Store in the refrigerator.

I’m not sure if I should share this recipe or if it deserves its own post but I will give it to now because you need it in your life. We made these for Christmas morning and it was the best!

Semi-Homemade Caramel Rolls:

Caramel Sauce Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 cups heavy cream
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1 tablespoon butter unsalted butter, softened or melted
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 and 1/2 Tablespoons white sugar

1 package frozen cinnamon rolls

Directions:

Combine all caramel sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat until sugar is dissolved & sauce is slightly thickened. Pour caramel sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 pan. Place frozen cinnamon rolls on top of caramel and let rise according to package directions. Bake rolls according to package (usually 350F for about 25-30 minutes until rolls are golden brown on top.)

Now there are two ways to serve caramel rolls:
1. You can flip them over out of the pan on a serving tray and let all the yummy gooeyness drip down in all the nooks and crannies or
2. You can leave them in the baking dish and serve individually spooning the caramel over the top (we usually do it this way since we always have leftovers and its easier to store!)

We also love the Bamboo and Cornstarch Feeding Bowls. They are 100% recyclable and are 70% biodegradable. They are the perfect size for snacks, cereal and even painting! These are dishwasher safe as well!

And for a last family favorite that is our go to when I don’t know what else to make.

Meatloaf:

Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 lbs ground beef
3/4 cup quick buckeye rolled oats, uncooked (regular oatmeal is just fine)
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup milk

Sauce Ingredients:
2/3 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons mustard

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F.
Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Mix all ingredients (minus the ones for the sauce) together in a large mixing bowl (hands work the best).
Lightly press meat mixture into loaf pan.
Mix sauce ingredients together.
Pour sauce over meatloaf.
Bake for 60-90 minutes until meat is cooked through and no longer pink.
